What is CPT?

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CPT helps individuals identify and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs related to a traumatic event, with the goal of changing unhelpful thinking patterns and reducing the emotional distress caused by trauma.

The therapy follows a structured process that guides individuals in understanding how the traumatic experience has affected their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through CPT, clients learn to reframe distorted thoughts and develop healthier, more balanced perspectives. This process promotes recovery from PTSD symptoms by helping individuals process the trauma in a way that reduces its emotional impact, ultimately leading to healing and improved mental well-being.
